First-Impressions: Descendant of the Crane

Sometimes you just can’t put a finger on why you aren’t enjoying a book. You go through a list of things that a book has and just can’t think of an actual reason why it isn’t working for you. Yes, the pacing is a bit slow but you’ve loved and enjoyed slower ones. Yes, the character is a bit annoying but you have loved and enjoyed more annoying characters. Yes, some things are a bit unbelievable, but you have loved and enjoyed more unbelievable things.

So, what is it? Is it that you are getting a reading slump? No, it doesn’t feel like one… is it your mood? But you seem to be in a perfectly normal mood… and it definitely cannot be the cover…

Smoke in the Sun

I gave this book 2 stars for the entertainment. I will only go so far when it comes to entertainment in books, there are different types of entertainment: meaningful and meaningless. And you’re probably thinking “but, all the books you review on here are meaningless” and… yes… you are RIGHT, but there are different levels of meaninglessness, you know?

Anyways, I think this is the second book (Eliza and Her Monsters was the first) that I’ve rated lower than Emily May’s ratings… ever. Colour me shook. Okay, I’m going to try and make this sound organised because my enraged thoughts just blew out of me yesterday and my notes are an incoherent and unstructured mess.

The Wicked Deep

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book blew my MIND. At first I started it, and I knew I would like it. I thought it would end up being a quick and interesting read that I would finish at least for the sake of my Goodreads goal and at most because I was enjoying it: maybe 3-3.5 stars… 4 stars if I’m lucky.

I had no idea I would be sucked in like I was sucked in. I had no idea I would be hit over the head with such a mind-twisting plot twist as that was, and to slowly be torn apart, shred by shred, as the ending drew nearer and the pages flew by quicker.

I finished this book in pretty much one sitting.
