Rereading Anne of Green Gables

My battered but beloved copy!

Hello everyone! Now I know I’ve ranted so many times on this blog already about how AMAZING Anne of Green Gables is and how much I LOVE it – but Hannah over at The Way of Delight, along with my all-time love for this series, has inspired me to start a reread of this entire series. And of course I’m going to be filling you all in on this along the way!

I would also highly recommend checking out Hannah’s blog if you’re also an LMM fan because Hannah is too, and we’ve both bonded together multiple times of the sheer beauty of LMM’s work, and how much we just love Anne of Green Gables. So, on this post I’m going to be talking about what it’s like rereading this beautiful book for the fourth time…

It’s nostalgic

As soon as I begun the first classic sentence, “Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies’ eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place…” a wave of nostalgia hit me like a brick.

It’s funny

I’ve got a favourite quotes post coming soon so stay tuned for more examples – but this book is so funny! It has sent me off into peals of laughter even on the fourth read! Now that says something.

A little sneak peek into next week’s post!

It’s relatable

As you will also see me mention in a later post (that is scheduled) I can relate to Anne Shirley a lot. The more I read on the more I realise (I must have forgotten before) how similar Anne and I are.

We both talk a lot. We both read a lot. We both have had a shot at writing. We both hate sewing. We both have imaginations and yes it’s true sometimes I do look forward to nighttime so I can imagine so many different things while everyone else is peacefully snoring away – as odd as it may sound saying (or writing) this aloud.

As I reread this beloved series I will be posting more and more about this series, so stay tuned for more posts! I will also be rereading more books (as well as attempting to finish new ones) so keep an eye out! Speak soon!

  1. Yes it is!! Ahh you have to read more – the 6th and 7th are one of my all-time faves! And even Anne’s House of Dreams (the 5th book) is sooo good. In fact, they all are. I’ve seen the Anne of Green Gables movie which I watched at the end of the school year and then that summer I started the series.

The other day someone looked at my bookshelf like “Why do you have three copies of Anne of Green Gables?” and I didn’t even bother answering…🤦‍♀️

  3. *happy sighs* This post and the promise of the ones to come makes my heart happy. 😀 I feel very privileged to have inspired you! And oh what a delightful journey rereading this series will be! I’ve absolutely adored my time in them this summer… And now I’m on to rereading as many of LMM’s other books in the last week before school starts. 😀 Anyways, all that to say that I’m ever so happy you’re rereading these delightful gems and I shall be following along with joy! 🙂

  4. Awww im glad to hear!! 😀 you’ve totally inspired and motivated me, whenever I see your updates on Goodreads I’m just like “ahhh how does she have time for this?!” but now as I’m rereading I’m realising when it comes to LMM, you have to make time for it, and it’s worth it too 😀 I’ve almost finished Anne of Green Gables now. Aww thank you! 🙂
