WWW Wednesday – 27th June

Hey guys! Today I’ll be participating in WWW Wednesday – which is a meme I’ve done once before, I think. I know this is a later published post than I usually do, I don’t know what time it might be for you in the world but its the evening here, and I realised there have been quite a few changes to my reading lately so I thought I’d do a little update before tomorrow’s scheduled post goes up!

What are you currently reading?

Two books. If you know me well, you know I’m the Queen of DNF, literally. The reason my average Goodreads rating is around 4.50 is because if I don’t like a book, and I’m not enjoying a book, and I’m not liking the characters, my approach is “why keep reading it?” so I DNF it. Which is bad, I know, because a book can always surprise you at the end, but reading in my free-time is something I want to enjoy.

Image result for a great and terrible beautyThe first book I’m currently reading A Great and Terribly Beauty by Libba Bray – the title and the cover both sound like some romance books with a historical-fiction twist… and I am pleased to report that so far that is not the case (the romance bit not the historical-fiction one – it is a historical fiction book). If it was the case I wouldn’t have started this book in the first place really since I’m not a fan of those.

Anyways, I’m 21% through and I’m not enjoying it that much, to be honest. I don’t like how its written in present tense, with Three Dark Crowns I didn’t mind it, but with this book it just isn’t really working with me so far. However, I do really like the descriptions.

Strangely enough, I’m not even really liking the first person narrative… which is weird since I usually really like first person although I do refer third person. So far it seems to me it is a historical-fiction book with a fantastical twist? By mean of saying it’s a historical fiction set in a boarding school with some kind of fantasy element.

Another factor contributing to why I’m not enjoying it as much is because… I’ve read a lot of boarding school books about girls. And when I mean a lot – I mean a lot. One of my posts was even my favourite books with boarding schools for girls in them. And those aren’t even half of those ones I’ve read.

So in terms of the whole boarding schools aspect of the book, it really isn’t something too unique at the moment, and I’m being so picky and I feel kind of bad because I know how hard writing a book is and all, but these are just my own reading preferences. But yeah, I can’t really say much more about this because I’m not too far in but if things don’t quicken up I may end up DNF-ing this, sadly.

I’m also currently reading The City of Brass which I just started and am not really liking so far.

What did you recently finish reading?

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo! My review will be posted tomorrow 🙂

What do you think you’ll read next?

I have no idea, but I want to read Batman by Marie Lu.
